Julio Lanzas vs. Brad Jackson
You can find the story at
http://www.rockymountainboxing.com/ or read the recap below:
Brad Jackson took a step up of sorts and came up short in his four
rounder with tough journeyman Julio Lanzas, who is training with the Old
School gym in Colorado Springs and Mike Montoya Sr.
Jackson is using the left, jab and hooks. Trying to land the 1-2. Lanzas
lands jabs and right hands to the body. Jackson gets very tall inside,
very dangerous. Jackson looks very tight, needs to relax in the ring.
Lanzas misses badly with wild hooks. Jackson is trying to time him and
catch him coming in but can’t seem to find the mark. Not a lot of
punches landed but Jackson gets the better of them. 10-9 Jackson.
Jackson picks a couple of right hand shots from the outside to open the
second stanza. It’s more of the same with Lanzas playing the bull and
Jackson the matador, side stepping the rushes from Lanzas. Lanzas
continues to come forward but is unable to land much at all. Jackson
catches him and moves. 10-9 Jackson.
Lanzas lands a pair of hard right hands to start the third round. Lanzas
uses the jab 'joust' style ramming it into Jackson’s face. Jackson is
keeping the left hand low and pushing 1-2’s from the outside. He isn’t
committing to any of the shots so they don’t have any effect on Lanzas
outside of scoring points. Lanzas is busier and wins the round, 10-9
Lanzas.
Jackson starts the fourth pecking with the jab while Lanzas is looking
for bombs. Lanzas lands an overhand right that stuns Jackson
momentarily. Lanzas lands a jab and left hook, having a much better
round. Jackson is very defensive seldom creating offense always looking
to counter. Lanzas lands another overhand right that gets the crowd
going. He smiles as if to say ‘how you like that?’ Lanzas wins the round
and salvages a draw on the RMB card, 38-38.
Judges ringside agreed with scores of Bates-38-38, Waldman-38-38 and
Kugler-39-37 for Jackson.
Majority draw. Good call.
